How RAID systems work
Adding a RAID system to your storage configurations is one of the most cost-effective ways of ensuring both protection and accessibility of your data.
RAID is not the acronym of the well-known French police force, but the acronym for a storage system made up of several physical media.
RAID, for “Redundant Array of Independent Disks”, is storage virtualization. In this article, I'll describe the various RAID systems commonly found. For the sake of simplicity and convenience, I'll always refer to RAID systems based on hard disks (SATA, SCSI or SAS). However, it is perfectly possible to set up RAID systems using SSDs or USB sticks, for example.
